Product Summary

Your Access and Visual Basic databases represent a major investment of time and resources. Because of this, you must properly manage them to avoid problems. For optimal performance and stability, Microsoft Access/Jet Engine (*.MDB) databases need to be periodically repaired, compacted, backed up (copied or zipped), and monitored. Total Access Agent schedules and automatically performs these tasks across multiple databases. Perform tasks in the middle of the night. You can even back up data while users are in the database!

Total Access Agent can manage multiple databases across any network that supports Microsoft Access. Just launch the Agent from any workstation that can access the databases. Total Access Agent even handles secured databases and lets you assign the security workgroups, user name, and passwords necessary to perform the tasks you need.

Easy To Use

Total Access Agent lets you easily specify the times for events (hourly, daily, weekly or monthly). For each time, assign the databases to manage. Then, for each scheduled database, specify the tasks to perform. The same database can be included in multiple schedules. For instance, track the number of records every hour and backup once a night. A Test feature lets you run the requested tasks immediately to ensure your options are set correctly.

Flexible Time Scheduling

With flexible time scheduling, Total Access Agent allows you to create hourly, daily, weekly, and monthly events. You can even specify when processing should finish to make sure your databases are ready when you need them.

Total Access Agent anticipates that your databases will grow in size and complexity. For each time period, you can optionally assign when the tasks need to be finished (for instance, start backups at 3AM, but finish by 5AM). If the tasks are not completed by the stop time, the remaining tasks are skipped and an error is recorded. Total Access Agent accommodates your growing databases and lets you manage them with confidence.

 

Complete Audit Trail

Every task performed by Total Access Agent is recorded in Microsoft Access tables with customizable reports. Information includes the database name, task, and start and end times. if any problems (such as corruption) are encountered, the error is recorded and can even notify the system administrator via E-Mail! If tasks are not completed by the specified finish time, the remaining tasks are skipped and the error recorded.  Total Access Agent grows with your system and lets you manage your databases with confidence.

OLE Automation Server Included

Total Access Agent includes an OLE Automation Server to let you execute its functions from your own applications rather than the scheduler. Programs that support OLE automation clients such as Visual Basic, Microsoft Access or Microsoft Excel can control the Total Access Agent OLE Server. Just specify the database and task to perform and it is performed with full audit log and error handling.

Multi-Platform Support

Total Access Agent supports databases created with Access 1.0, 1.1, 2.0, 95, and 97 and Visual Basic 3.0, 4.0, 5.0 and 6.0. It runs under Windows 3.x, 95, and NT.

Flexible database and Task Scheduling

For each scheduled time, assign the databases to manage and the tasks to perform. The same database can be included in multiple schedules. For instance, track the number of records every hour and backup once a night.

How Total Access Agent Works

Once configured, Total Access Agent runs in the background using a minimal amount of system resources while waiting for the next event. When the scheduled time arrives,  Total Access Agent wakes up, performs the task, then goes back to sleep to wait for the next scheduled time. If you do not have tasks scheduled during the day, you don't even need a dedicated machine. Just let Total Access Agent run in the background and leave your machine on when you go home!

Total Access Agent supports Access versions 2.0, 95, and 97 and VB versions 3, 4, 5, and 6 and includes the 16- and 32-bit versions. Total Access Agent is available as a single license, a five-user license, or as a part of the Total Access Enterprise Suite. To place an order, click here.

There is not a unlimited runtime version of Total Access Agent. Each copy of Total Access Agent can manage an unlimited number of databases across an entire network, and includes system administrator e-mail support. If you are deploying an Access application and want to include Total Access Agent features, you can purchase multiple copies at a discount and re-sell them to your clients. There are significant discounts available for volume purchases. Runtime/Redistributable Version
A runtime version of Total Visual Agent is not available since it cannot be bundled within an Access or VB application (like a control). Total Visual Agent is a system administrative tool and usually runs on a machine separate from the deployed applications. Since it can manage databases across the entire network, its usefulness extends well beyond your application. Many developers and consultants, who need to bundle scheduled database maintenance with their applications, purchase multi-license copies of Total Visual Agent and resell it to their clients. Not only can you resell Total Visual Agent at full price, you can also charge consulting fees for installing and setting it up to manage your applications, all their other Access/Jet databases, and scheduling other tasks. Ownership of the Software

The enclosed software program (“Software”) and the accompanying written materials are owned by FMS, Inc. or its suppliers and are protected by United States copyright laws, by laws of other nations, and by international treaties. You must treat the Software like any other copyrighted material except that you may make one copy of the Software solely for backup or archival purpose, and you may transfer the Software to a permanent storage device.

Grant of License

FMS, Inc. grants you the right to use one copy of the Software on a single computer. You may load one copy into permanent memory of one computer or network server, and may use that copy only on a single computer at a time.

Restrictions

Under no circumstances may you attempt to reverse engineer this product. You may not rent or lease the Software, but you may transfer the Software and the accompanying written materials on a permanent basis provided you retain no copies and the recipient agrees to the terms in this Software License. Ownership transfers must be reported to FMS, Inc. in writing.

Limited Warranty

If you discover physical defects in the media on which this software is distributed, or in the related manual, FMS, Inc. will replace the media or manual at no charge to you, provided you return the item(s) within 60 days after purchase.
