Statistical Analysis for Microsoft
Visual Basic Programmers
VIENNA, VA -October 30, 1998 - FMS,
Inc. is pleased to ship Total VB Statistics, a new program for Visual Basic developers,
offering a wide range of statistical analysis. Prior to Total VB Statistics, Visual Basic
programmers had to hand code complicated statistical analysis or run standalone statistics
programs to generate the results they needed. Total VB Statistics provides powerful number
crunching analysis within the Visual Basic development environment and full support for
database (large data set) analysis. Total VB Statistics is the second FMS product for the
Visual Basic market.
What is Total VB Statistics?
Total VB Statistics is the most powerful statistical analysis program for Visual
Basic. It allows developers to easily analyze data stored in any Microsoft Jet/Access
database. Analysis can also be performed on linked tables from sources such as dBase,
Paradox, FoxPro, SQL Server, and ODBC. Total VB Statistics analyzes an unlimited number of
records in any table or query. The results are placed in tables that developers can view,
query, sort, analyze, or add to forms and reports.
Total VB Statistics contains two parts.
The first is a Statistics Scenario Designer that allows a developer to interactively
specify the database, table or query, fields, and statistical functions to analyze.
Developers can specify the fields to analyze and Group By. For each unique combination of
Group By fields, a separate record is generated in the output table. Analysis can also
include a weighting field (e.g. for weighted averages), and individual values or ranges of
values to ignore. The Statistics Scenario Designer also runs scenarios and displays the
resulting table(s). This allows a developer to verify their settings are correct.
The second part of Total VB Statistics
is an ActiveX DLL control (dynamic link library) that developers invoke from their program
to run a scenario. The programmatic interface to this function is very simple and the
Statistics Scenario Designer even generates the code to paste. With the Statistics DLL,
Visual Basic developers can run their scenarios from within their applications. Under 1
Meg in size, it is the only file developers need to distribute with their applications to
add statistical analysis.
What Statistical Functions are

Total VB Statistics contains a wide range of the most popular statistical
analysis functions including:

FMS and Statistical Analysis
FMS has a long history in providing developer tools for statistical analysis. In 1990, FMS
released ParaStat for Paradox DOS. In 1994, ParaStat for Windows was released for Paradox
for Windows, and Total Access Statistics was launched for Microsoft Access. Over the
years, these products were enhanced to provide new functionality and support the latest
versions of the underlying database. Compatible with Total Access Statistics, Total VB
Statistics stores its scenarios the same way so any analysis designed in one program can
be run seamlessly by the other.
"We are very pleased to bring
advanced, programmatic, statistical analysis to Visual Basic developers," said Luke
Chung, President of FMS. "Total VB Statistics builds on Total Access Statistics and
provides Visual Basic developers the power Access developers have enjoyed for several
years. We realize many developers are intimidated by statistics, so we've designed the
program to make it easy for developers to interactively create and test their analysis,
then add it to their applications."
Pricing and Availability
Total VB Statistics is available in two versions: a single license (one developer) version
for $599 and a 5 License Pack for $1799. Each license entitles one developer unlimited,
royalty-free distribution of the Statistics DLL when integrated into their applications.
Total VB Statistics is available
directly from FMS and most corporate resellers. All FMS products come with a thirty-day
money back guarantee. For more information, please visit our Total VB Statistics page.
