2107 (14228.20204) |
Updated the Microsoft Access Database Engine (ACE) but created an error: The operating system is not presently configured to run this application when trying to use the Access Database Engine DAO API from a non-Microsoft Office application. The error can be triggered in Visual Studio .NET with a single line of code that initializes the Access database engine: dbe = New DAO.DBEngine. The error occurs before opening any database because the core database engine fails. Unfortunately, there isn’t a solution once this Office update is installed other than going back to a prior version. |

May 1993 | RTM | Added Access Basic programming language |
Microsoft Access debuted in November 1992 at the COMDEX convention in Las Vegas, Nevada. FMS President Luke Chung was there when Bill Gates introduced Microsoft Access, the first relational database program for Windows. It was Microsoft's first end-user database product and competed directly against Borland's dominance of the DBMS market with their dBase and Paradox products for DOS. FMS was a leader in the Paradox market and soon found Microsoft and Access to be a better partner and platform.
Read Luke's recollection of his experiences during that time in his Microsoft Access History: We were So Impressed article that was featured on the Microsoft site during Access' 10th Anniversary.
